MOUNT OLYMPUS

Mount Olympus | 39 x 70 in. | acrylic on canvas | 2021

Mount Olympus on planet Mars is one of the tallest mountains in the solar system, at 22 km high is almost two and a half times the height of Mount Everest at 8.8 km. It’s so high it protrudes out of the atmosphere.

Recreated in wide format in near accurate silhouette, proportion and colour. Short of sending another rover up it, or hiking up there ourselves, this is probably the best view of Olympus we’ll have for a while. In any case, we should focus on our own Earth, the only place we know of so far where we can stand on the plain, under the sun, and breathe freely.
