ARARAT

Ararat | 31 x 54 in. | acrylic on linen | 2020

I’m certainly not the first to be enraptured by these ancient mountains and trying to capture them in paint, but I’ve applied my spin on it with principles of minimalism and colour fields to give the immediacy of sensation, in the simplest and most direct way, of seeing the mountain.

I love mountains, since I was a kid there has always been a fascination and a primitive urge to climb them whenever I saw them off in the distance, which now seems to have been supplanted by an urge to paint them.

First painting in linen, which I’ve found is a fantastic if delicate material to paint on, really glides luxuriantly under the brush though needs more careful handling.
